Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) for the Detection of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) in Meteorites

چکیده

The spectroscopic characterization of plasma generated in meteorite samples during Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) shows the emission spectrum elements present and also allows one to rapidly identify elemental composition without any sample preparation with good accuracy compared some other methods. In addition, LIBS has advantages, such as multi-elemental response, micro–nano gram level destructiveness portability instrument. Since presence Rare Earth Elements (REEs) meteorites is usually trace levels or not at all, can be used a potential alternative method for fragment analysis which, turn, gives valuable clues on its origin well solar system impact life Earth, particularly REEs. results few selected samples, iron meteorites, lunar eucrites glass, are presented discussed. was supplemented by Principal Component Analysis (PCA) which it possible classify into different classes according their chief constituents, structure origin.

Remote Laser - induced Breakdown Spectroscopy ( LIBS ) Analysis of Hydrated Sulfates

Introduction: One of the most promising of instruments selected for the upcoming Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission for analyzing Martian rocks is the remote Laser-Induced Breakdown Spec-troscopy (LIBS) on the ChemCam instrument package. The LIBS technique involves focusing a laser pulse beam at a distant target with sufficiently high energy that a plasma is made, reducing a small spot on th...

Measuring total soil carbon with laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS).

Improving estimates of carbon inventories in soils is currently hindered by lack of a rapid analysis method for total soil carbon. A rapid, accurate, and precise method that could be used in the field would be a significant benefit to researchers investigating carbon cycling in soils and dynamics of soil carbon in global change processes. We tested a new analysis method for predicting total soi...

Subsurface Heavy-Metal Detection with the use of a Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) Penetrometer System

U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station (WES) investigators have designed, fabricated, and demonstrated a cone penetrometer sensor for subsurface in situ field screening based on LIBS. The LIBS probe (patent pending) presented here is one of a suite of contaminant and geophysical probes developed by the WES Site Characterization and Analysis Penetrometer System (SCAPS) program. The LIBS...
